NATO not on board with Kosovo army

NATO is against Kosovo getting its own army and it is its four member countries which have not recognized Kosovo that are the obstacle, unnamed high-ranking NATO officials told the daily.

Kosovo can decide to turn its Security Force (KSF) into Kosovo armed forces, but NATO would not like this at all. The future status of the KSF is unclear and remains a topic of discussion inside NATO, writes the Pristina-based daily.

A high-level official also said NATO is looking for a way out of the present situation, since KFOR cannot remain in Kosovo forever.

The plan to transform the KSF into the Kosovo armed forces this year is not possible, despite statements from Kosovo's high-ranking officials, he said.
