He stressed that respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is one of the pillars of contemporary international legal order.

Wei believes that the advisory opinion of the ICJ is not an obstacle to adequately resolving the issue through negotiations between relevant parties within the framework of the UN Security Council resolution.

"We believe the opportunity created when the UN General Assembly passed a resolution on Kosovo should be used to resume the talks on relevant issues," Ambassador Wei Jinghua told Belgrade daily Politika.

Asked about his views on the change of the Serbian draft resolution submitted to the UN General Assembly, the ambassador said the Chinese side respects the choice of the Serbian people as well as the domestic and foreign policy of the government of Serbia.

He added that China supports dialogue which would lead to a solution acceptable to both sides pursuant to the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
