Azimov: OSCE mission in Kosovo to devote attention on the issue of the return of refugees

The OSCE mission in Kosovo should devote special attention on the issue of the return of refugees and react more clearly to the expression of ethnic intolerance and provocations on the part of Kosovo Albanian extremists, aimed at destabilization of the situation in the southern Serbian province and against Kosovo Serbs, the Russian permanent representative with the OSCE, Anvar Azimov, said at a session of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna.

He said that the establishment of stability of security, insurance of rights of non-Albanian communities, preservation of the Serbian cultural and religious heritage and the return of refugees were the key tasks set in UN SC Resolution 1244.

The document is still a legitimate basis for resolving the Kosovo issue, which obliges everybody, he said. Emphasizing that the situation is concerning even when it comes to the preservation of the Serbian cultural and religious heritage in Kosovo, he said that since 1999 more than one hundred Serbian monasteries and churches, including medieval monuments under the protection of UNESCO, have been destroyed and desecrated by Kosovo Albanian extremists.
