Russia demands detailed report on Carla del Ponte's claims

Russia’s Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin demanded at a UN Security Council session on Wednesday that representatives of the International Criminal Tribunal in the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) issue a detailed report on the cases of extraction of human internal organs from Kosovo Serb prisoners which former ICTY chief prosecutor Carla del Ponte wrote about in her book “The Hunt: Me and War Criminals”.

"We expect a detailed report from the International Criminal Tribunal on the measures that have been taken in respect of the shocking findings of former ICTY chief prosecutor Carla del Ponte and the facts which The Hague Tribunal has tried to conceal", Churkin said, pointing out that the comments that had been put forward at the press briefing on April 16 by the ICTY could hardly be qualified as acceptable.

"One gets the impression that the Tribunal is trying to find different excuses for ignoring serious accusations regarding massive violent extraction of human organs", the Russian diplomat said.

"The Tribunal is obliged to investigate these facts, and once they have been checked, they should think about how making the perpetrators answer for their ghastly crimes fits in the strategy of the finalisation of The Hague Tribunal's work", Churkin said.
