The ethnic Albanian leadership in Pristina wants to hire Roelf Meyer, a South African businessman and consultant who played a leading role in negotiating that country’s transition from apartheid, to lobby African countries to recognise its unilateral secession.

According to the Pristina media, Meyer had met Kosovo president Fatmir Sejdiu, foreign minister Skender Hyseni, and Kosovo assembly president Jakup Krasniqi, and offered his assistance to lobby for Kosovo.
Meyer (61) entered apartheid South Africa's parliament in 1979 as a young rising star for the then-ruling National Party.
In the early 90s, he was key in negotiations with the African National Congress (ANC) on the ending of apartheid and the transition to democracy.
Only two African countries have recognized Kosovo's secession - Burkina Fasso and Senegal.
