Thaci vows to take full control of Kosovo after June 15

The ethnic Albanian Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaqi has vowed to take full authority of Kosovo affairs after the entry in force of the new constitution on June 15.

"I believe that after June 15, the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo will start functioning throughout Kosovo's territory with full state authority," Thaci said during a government meeting on Monday.

He admitted, however, that this authority would accept and work beside the supervision provided by the international community.

Thaci emphasised that after June 15, Kosovo needs only one decision-making centre and that, according to him, can only be Pristina.

His views are likely to be resolutely opposed by the Kosovo Serbs and to provoke fresh interethnic tensions.
