Ex-war crimes indictee Haradinaj now wants to “reach out” to Serbs

Ramush Haradinaj, former Kosovo premier and war crimes indictee, said on Tuesday he wanted to reach out to the Serb community and present it with a “proper offer”.

Haradinaj, accused of murdering dozens of Serb and Roma civilians in 1998-99, was acquitted by the Hague tribunal earlier this month after the prosecution failed to present enough evidence following the killing of nine key witnesses.

"At this stage, we should present a proper offer, as well as interpret that offer in a good way toward the Serbs in the north with the benefits that will come if they join and accept that offer," Haradinaj said in an interview in Pristina.

He said the offer should based on the attempt to get the Serb community to accept the Albanian unilateral declaration of independence.

Haradinaj also criticized the current Kosovo government for a poor result in gaining recognition for Pristina's move.

"I believe they have to put more efforts for that and that we have to call for more help," said Haradinaj.
