Council of Europe SG, Amnesty International ask why Del Ponte was late with allegations

The Secretary-General of the Council of Europe Terry Davis said on Thursday that he was very surprised by the fact that former ICTY chief prosecutor Carla del Ponte had waited so long to present such serious accusations against the highest representatives of Kosovo authorities and their involvement in trade in organs of Serb prisoners.

"I am very surprised that she presented the accusations so late, and these accusations make me very worried", Davis said in Strasbourg.

The Europe director of Amnesty International Nicola Duckworth also wondered why Del Ponte was late.

She told KosovoCompromise.com that the former Hague tribunal chief prosecutor had brought "very serious charges".

"She needs to provide proofs for these claims, and relevant organs need to investigate the claims", she said.

"It is hard to say what her motives were to publish this now ... it is clear that some people do not understand why these allegations were brought now, and not earlier", she said.
