Samardzic said elections are being called for all of Serbian territory, which is the reason why they will be held on the territory of Kosovo as well.

He said that Serbs had not participated in the local elections organized by temporary authorities in Kosovo, after which UN special representative Joachim Ruecker extended the mandate in the mainly Serb municipalities by another six months.

He also stressed that the period expires at the time the elections are called.

Samardzic stressed UNMIK's obligation to call the elections according to U.N. Resolution 1244, and he announced that Serbia will request this in a letter.

Parliamentary, local and provincial elections in Serbia are scheduled for May 11.
