Serbia will hold local and parliamentary elections in Kosovo on May 11

Serbian minister for Kosovo Slobodan Samardzic said on Monday that Belgrade would organize local and parliamentary elections in Kosovo on May 11, the same date as everywhere else in Serbia.

"Kosovo is part of Serbia, so parliamentary and local elections will be held in Kosovo," Samardzic said during a visit to Serb enclaves in the territory.

He said he would request from Unmik to authorize the move.

The UN mission had not blocked the vote in the past, but the Albanian leadership in Pristina is urging a ban on local elections.

"Serbia will find a way to take over responsibilities that after the declaration of independence were left hanging," Samardzic said in the village of Laplje Selo.

"Serbs don't want to work for an Albanian quasi-state, but for Serbia," he added.
