NATO tightens grip in northern Kosovska Mitrovica, UNMIK to return shortly
NATO troops had tightened security control on Tuesday over northern Kosovska Mitrovica after UN police withdrew following the Monday violence.

Kfor ordered Kosovo Serb policemen to suspend daily duties, as French, Belgian and Spanish troops in armoured personnel carriers secured the area, and 150 U.S. troops were deployed on the southern, Albanian side of Mitrovica.
On Wednesday, the situation remained calm and normal daily life returned to the town.
The president of the Serbian National Council of Kosovska Mitrovica Nebojsa Jovich said he agreed with Unmik regional commander David Blunt on the gradual return of Unmik police to the north.
Unmik confirmed the return of regular UN police, but not of special units which carried the Monday operation that was at the origin of the clashes.
