Unmik says it “reclaimed” Kosovo rail line

Unmik said it had “reclaimed” controlled of the Kosovo rail line in northern Kosovo, arguing it had “reversed the challenge” to its authority by Belgrade over the 50km line.

"Unmik reasserted control of the rail line between Zvecan and Lesak," an Unmik statement said.

It said that Unmik border police stopped a Serbian train in Lesak on Tuesday, not allowing it to travel further south.

The UN chief administrator in Kosovo, Joachim Ruecker, warned that "any movement of trains south of Lesak by Serbian Railways is a clear challenge to Unmik's authority" and it "will not be tolerated".

Meanwhile, Serb working in local administration in the eastern Kosovo town of Gnjilane and Vitina abandoned their institutions, confirming their rejection of an "independent" state of Kosovo.
