Kosovo Serbs call for return of Russian troops to Kfor

Kosovo Serbs on Wednesday urged Russia to redeploy its troops to Kosovo, as a result of drastic lack of trust between some 16,000 NATO-led forces and Serbs in a number of enclaves shattered throughout the volatile region.

The Serbian National Council, an organization which leads some 130,000 Kosovo Serbs, called the Russian army to redeploy its forces in Kosovo, which have been absent from the region since Moscow's controversial decision to withdraw from province in mid-2003.

"The Serb National Council calls on Russia to return its KFOR contingent, to stabilize the situation in areas where Serbs are in the majority," Milan Ivanovic of Serbian National Council said.

The call followed renewed tensions between Kfor and Serbs in areas near the administrative line between Kosovo and central Serbia.
