The peaceful protests were also the occasion to thank states which have refused to organize the illegal secession - from Spain, Romania, Cyprus and Slovakia, through Russia, China and India, to South Africa, Argentina and Brazil.

Some 10,000 Serbs gathered in the largest of the protests, in Vienna.

"Instead of gathering at a celebration, we are gathered again by a tragedy. The Albanian separatists, helped by some mighty allies in the West, have taken upon the task to take away 15 percent of its territory from Serbia, a sovereign, UN member", the organizers stated.

Thousands of Serbs gathered in Stutgart, Duseldorf, Frankfurt, while over 5,000 Serbs gathered in Geneva, in front of the UN and 2,000 gathered in Toronto.

Several hundred protesters demonstrated in front of EU institutions in Brussels, carrying large caricature posters from http://www.kosovocompromise.com/ and banners "Albanians 2 - Basques 0" and "Albanians 2 - Kurds 0" in a reference to the fact that the Albanian nation is being allowed to create a second ethnic state in Europe - next to Albania -- while some other  larger nations have been denied the right to have even a single one.
