EU Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs Franco Frattini said on Tuesday the EU was opposed to any trade-offs between the visa liberalisation process for Serbian citizens and the resolution of the Kosovo status.
"My personal opinion is to favor taking into consideration the needs of Serbia but not as a return for the solving of the Kosovo situation", Frattini said in a reply to a journalist question about the proposal of Italian Prime minister Romano Prodi to speed up the visa liberalisation process for Serbian citizens.
"We cannot negotiate visa liberalisation vis-à-vis Kosovo's future. It's a totally different situation, frankly speaking", Frattini said.
Serbia signed on Tuesday an agreement on visa facilitation with the EU, a first step towards full visa liberalisation.
