Beijing, which has a veto-yielding power, is "deeply worried about the grave negative impact" Kosovo's unilateral declaration would have on the region, Foreign ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said in a statement.

"All along China has deemed negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo to reach a mutually acceptable plan as the best way to resolve the Kosovo problem."

"China calls on Serbia and Kosovo to continue to reach for a proper solution through negotiations under the framework of international law, and to jointly maintain the safety and stability of the Balkan region. The international society should create positive conditions for this," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
