Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaqi said in Pristina on Wednesday that the Serbian presidential election would have no effect on the process of declaring Kosovo's independence.

"Independence will be declared in the next few days. The Serbian
election, regardless of whether Tomislav Nikolic or Boris Tadic wins,
has no effect on us. Kosovo has its own road," Thaqi said.

"Kosovo has its own preventive plan. It is a joint plan of the Kosovo
government and international mechanisms," he said.

Over the past few days, Thaqi has met with all structures responsible
for security in Kosovo. He met with UNMIK chief Joachim Ruecker and
KFOR commander Xavier Bout de Marnhac.

British daily the Financial Times and the news agency Reuters have
said that the day when Kosovo will declare independence depends on the
result of the Serbian presidential election.

According to the media, if Serbian Radical Party candidate Tomislav
Nikolic wins, independence will be proclaimed quickly, whereas if
Boris Tadic wins the declaration will be delayed "for a few weeks"
