Top Serbian officials: Serbia will never give up on Kosovo

Serbian President Boris Tadic pointed out that Serbia would never accept Kosovo’s independence, and would defend the province with negotiations and arguments, adding that there could be no surrender in that matter.

"In case of unilateral recognition, Serbia will abolish such an act. Only the UN Security Council can make a legally valid resolution on the future status of Kosovo. We will use all legal, diplomatic and peaceful means in the fight for our sovereignty and integrity," Tadic underscored.

In order to fight for and win its state and national interests, Serbia, according to Tadic, must not isolate itself. "Isolation would be devastating for Serbia and it would permanently prevent any possibility of us influencing the decision making process in international institutions. Serbia must take an active position and be present where decisions are made," the Serbian president said.

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica called on the EU to abandon plans to "unlawfully send its mission" to Kosovo, and not to disrupt Serbia's territorial integrity.

"Starting from its respect for and firm insistence on European values, Serbia demands that the EU not disrupt the country's territorial integrity and clearly abandon plans to unlawfully send its mission to the province," Kostunica said.

"It is certain that on January 28 either the Stabilization and Association Agreement will be signed with Serbia, or the EU will decide to tear Serbia apart with its mission. One cannot go with the other, and it is up to the EU to make a choice," Kostunica added.
