UNMIK believes that talks between Belgrade and Pristina should be direct and without mediators, stated UNMIK Spokesman Russell Geekie.

He told Kosovo Albanian media that it is still early to talk about the negotiations in which UNMIK could have a role in, but said that UNMIK suggests direct talks between Belgrade and Pristina.

"However, we still don't know the EU's role, since (the talks) are a part of the European perspective," Geekie pointed out and added that UNMIK was expecting recommendations from the UN Headquarters in New York.

On the other hand, Kosovo Albanian government officials are against talks that could be interpreted as interfering with Kosovo's internal affairs.
