More than 30,000 alleged property disputes still unresolved in Kosovo

The Kosovo Property Agency, which overlooks claims for the return of real estate to legitimate owners, said on Thursday that 30,637 such claims were submitted to the agency since 2006.

The KPA director Knut Rosandhaug called upon both illegal occupants and municipal authorities to cooperate with the agency in resolving the property disputes.

"Everyone who is illegally occupying a property is fully aware that the property does not legally belong to them. My advice for usurpers is therefore to vacate the properties voluntarily or to enter into agreements with the lawful property right holder in order to avoid being evicted by the KPA," Rosandhaug said.

More than 200,000 Serbs and other non-Albanians have been expelled from Kosovo by Albanian extremists since 1999, leaving behind their homes and other property.
