Fico: Non-recognition of Kosovo aimed at fighting Hungarian policy against Slovakia's sovereignty
By not recognising the independence of Kosovo, the Slovak Government wants to show that it will use all its strength to protect national interests against an extremely dangerous policy aimed against Slovakia's sovereignty led by ethnic-Hungarian SMK party chairman Pal Csaky, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Monday at a joint press conference with his Serbian counterpart Mirko Cvetkovic.

"Our stance on Kosovo isn't only a matter of sympathy for Serbia, nor has it anything in common with our relations with the United States of America or the Russian Federation," said Fico, adding that he doesn't see any reason to change Slovakia's stance on the matter. At the same time, he views the fact that the International Court of Justice in the Hague will deal with the independence of Kosovo as a diplomatic success for Serbia.
Cvetkovic is convinced that the court in the Hague will issue its decision concerning Kosovo next year. "We're very grateful to Slovakia that it lobbied in our favour with a written statement," he said.
