His statement came after the ethnic Albanian politicians in southern Serbia called for a creation of a special Albanain region.
"This request by the Albanians from the south of Serbia is unrealistic, and at the moment, there is no constitutional prerequisite for setting up of regions and institutions," Markovic said in an interview published by Novosti.
He observed that the political declaration adopted by the deputies from the Albanian parties in Serbia's south is no novelty.
"Albanian politicians were guided partly by inertia and were partly under pressure imposed by the radical elements. Roots of that should found in the internal struggle of the leading Albanian parties and in the fact that there are outstanding problem that additionally complicate the situation in these municipalities," said Markovic.
"The government is aware that there are certain problems in the south, but we are determined to solve them. And there is nothing that can provoke us - neither terrorist acts nor any kind of declarations - to change that policy," said Markovic.
