Dominican analysts compare the splintering of Kosovo from Serbia with the country's situation with Haiti, because the growing number of nationals from the neighboring nation pose a threat of future demand for political recognition.

Oscar Medina, of the Teleradio-America afternoon program Poder de la Tarde, said the Haitian presence in certain regions in Dominican Republic resemble the situation which occurred prior to the civil war in the Balkans.

"Someday the ‘Haitian-Pedernalenses' could rise up and demand independence from Dominican Republic," said the analyst in reference to the southwestern province whose Haitian population is proportionately among the highest.
