Vatican, Iran refuse to recognize Kosovo

The Vatican and Iran are refusing to recognize Kosovo's independence,Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said after separate meetings.

He said that Vatican will not recognize the unilaterally declared Kosovo independence and that there are no indications it will alter its stance.

"At this moment there is not a spot in Europe where its Christian legacy is endangered more then in Kosovo and Metohia," said Jeremic.

Jeremic met with Vatican's deputy for foreign policy Leonard Sandri and with Cardinal Walter Casper who is the president of the Pope's committee for enhancing unity among Christians.

Previously, Jeremic received support from Iran's Foreign Minister Manoucherhr Mottaki, who said Teheran does not intend to recognize Kosovo's unilateral secession.

Jeremic said that Iran's support was extremely important in the Islamic world.
