"Malaysia has decided to recognize the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state and will establish diplomatic relations at an appropriate time in the future," the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on Saturday.

"Malaysia's recognition of the independence of Kosovo will helpmeet the aspirations of the Kosovo people in wanting an independent country," the statement said.

The Serbian government immediately reacted by deciding to withdraw hospitality to Malaysian Ambassador Saw Ching Hong.

The ambassador was presented with a note informing him that in line with the Serbian government's action plan, a decision was taken to withdraw hospitality to him, the Serbian Foreign Ministry release says.

Malaysia's decision to recognize unilateral declaration of Kosovo's independence at the time when this case is to be considered by the International Court of Justice is considered as pressure on ICJ, the release says.

Saw should leave Serbia within 48 hours, the release says.

Malaysia is the 52nd UN member to recognise Kosovo's unilateral secession.
