The opposition had planned to stage new protests on Thursday, but these are now off. Spontaneous gatherings and religious vigils continued however throughout the country.

The opposition had also asked for the cancelling of the decision to recognize Kosovo, an initiative rejected by the ruling coalition.

Meanwhile, the assembly of the municipality of the Adriatic coastal resort of Herceg-Novi adopted a resolution calling for the cancelling of the decision to recognize Kosovo, saying it violently breached the UN Charter and international law.

The resolution said the Montenegrin government did not have the legitimacy to reach such a decision since it said it was opposed by more than 80 percent of the Montenegrin population.
