Kosovo Serbs satisfied, Albanians regret UN GA decision

Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu voiced regret on Wednesday evening over the decision of the UN General Assembly to accept Serbia's proposal that an opinion be sought from the International Court of Justice on the legality of the unilateral declaration of Kosovo independence, and pointed out, however, that in spite of the decision, Kosovo independence was irretrievable

At a special press conference in Pristina, which was attended by Kosovo Premier Hasim Taci and Foreign Minister Skender Hiseni, Sejdiu said that so far, Kosovo had recognized by a majority of the member countries of the European Union and  NATO, and voiced belief that new recognitions would follow.

He underlined that Kosovo had the intention of taking an active part in the presentation of that case before the International Court of Justice, that international allies and friends would offer support in that respect, and that he expected the Court would be impartial, fair and just.

Meanwhile, Kosovo Serb representatives said they were satisfied because of the success of the Serbian initiative at the United Nations.

"I am certain that Serbia has chosen the right way when it decided to solve the issue of Kosovo with peaceful and democratic means in a diplomatic way," Dragisa Djokovic of the Democratic Party said.

"I hope that we will finally defend Kosovo within Serbia and Serbia within the existing borders," Djokovic said.
