At the rally, which was organised by the organization Young Russia, demonstrators were flying the flags of Russia, Serbia, Belgium, Holland and Germany, as well as the flag of South Ossetia.

"We expect from the EU to have its own stand on the Caucasus, and not to obey the stands of Washington", said Maxim Mischenko, a deputy of Vladimir Putin's United Russia.

"We sympathise with the Russian people, because the Serbian nation has experienced a number of injustices, as it did recently in the case of Kosovo, but we truly believe that one day, the injustices will be redressed", said Danica Acovic, one of the Serb participants in the protest.
