Spain has expressed such a view at the EU Summit in Brussels devoted to Union's future relations with Moscow, following the Russian recognition of the independence of the Georgian breakaway provinces of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

The Spanish foreign minister said that Madrid is protecting UN principles such as territorial integrity, which should be protected in the case of Georgia same as Spain defended it in the case of Kosovo.

Spain is one of the six EU countries which have not recognized Kosovo's secession.
