Transdniestria: Kosovo should become precedent for all non-recognized states

Transdniestria, a region which proclaimed independence from Moldova, welcomes the Russian recognition of the seceded Georgian autonomies of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, Speaker of its parliament Yevgeny Shevchuk said, voicing belief that the Kosovo will become an universal precedent for resolving the issue of unrecognized states

"Very recently we have seen that the United States and EU countries made a decision to transfer the province (Kosovo) from an undefined status to the subject of international law", he said, adding that "Kosovo will become a universal precedent for resolving the issue of unrecognized states".

"If Albanians were allowed to decide their fate in the most democratic way - by ballot, why then the peoples of unrecognized republics of the former Soviet Union cannot do the same", Shevchuk said.
