Montenegro: We are under pressure to recognize Kosovo
Svetozar Marovic, former president of Serbia-Montenegro and vice-president of the governing Montenegrin Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), on Monday evening confirmed that there are pressures from the international community on Montenegro to recognize the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo

Speaking in an interview for Television Montenegro, Marovic said that the issue of Kosovo is a very sensitive one and that there are no set deadlines for Montenegro to take a stand on the independence of Kosovo, "but there is certainly pressure." However, he added that the authorities should not be expected to place the question of Kosovo above the issues of European integrations.
"Montenegro can hardly place the question of Kosovo above the questions of European integrations and above the pace of the Euro-Atlantic integration processes," Marovic said.
"This means that Montenegro will probably be in a position to have to decide what it considers more important - whether to proceed toward Europe and full membership in European institutions or whether it will be in a situation perhaps to remove these priorities, which are the objective of Montenegro, from the focus of attention for the time being," Marovic said.
