Asked by reporters about how the Kosovo percedent affects the conflict in South Ossetia, Scheffer said that he does not see any similarity between Kosovo and South Ossetia.

"I will not go into detail, but my answer is no, there are no similarities", Scheffer responded.

At the meeting, NATO explicitely demanded the respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

Six months ago, following the unilateral declaration of the independence of Kosovo, NATO refused to back the territorial integrity of Serbia and 21 of its 26 members recognized the decision of the Kosovo Albanians.
