The United States Special Envoy to the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) Sada Cumber has called on the Brunei Sultanate to recognize Kosovo in the name of "Muslim solidarity".

Cumber said in Brunei that one of the pressing priorities for Washington was the recognition in Kosovo.

"It is very important (to recognise Kosovo) as Kosovo is a new country with a majority being Muslim. It is important that we do not see Kosovo to fail", the US envoy said.

"Because when a country fails you see very extreme elements, very radical elements, that penetrate their society. So it is important that Muslim countries around the world are able to recognise Kosovo so it becomes a successful country that plays an important role in the moderate and progressive Islam that we are looking for," he said.

Muslim countries have overwhelmingly refused to recognize Kosovo, judging it a case of secessionism and not of religion.
