Kosovo Serbs call on UN to dissuade Pristina from violence in the North

The Serb National Council (SNV) of Kosovo on Sunday stated that it does not accept anarchy and violence as methods for achieving goals, and requested the international community to solve the problem of the province only in keeping with international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1244.

"Regarding the frequent war-instigating rhetoric used of Albanian politicians by issuing warnings of a possibility of the Albanian self-organizing", aimed at restoring control over northern, Serb, part of the divided town on the Ibar River, the SNV underscored in its statement that "such an approach to solving the problem in the province is absolutely unacceptable to the Serbs".

The SNV reminded the international public that the Serbs in Kosovo will, in cooperation with the international community, do everything in their power to prevent, in a democratic and civilized way and with respect of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1244, an escalation of conflicts and destabilization of the province.

"We request the United Nations, Security Council and UNMIK representatives to seriously and with no delay consider the latest statements by some Albanian politicians and to take measures towards preventing consequences of such rhetoric, mainly possible escalation of conflicts and destabilization not only of Kosovo but of the region as a whole," it was said in the statement.
