Members of the European union have made a mistake by recognizing the unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo, and this situation has led to instability and a problem for all of Europe, former Italian foreign minister and European parliament member Gianni de Michelis said.

De Michelis said European states "made a mistake" in the unilateral recognition of Kosovo. The latest mistake is in the sending of the EULEX mission to Kosovo before a compromise on this issue was reached with the United Nations, he said.
The process of the recognition of the independence of Kosovo should be finished with its admission to the UN, but it is evident that Kosovo will not be able to become a UN member since the majority of the General Assembly would be against this, and not only China and Russia, De Michelis said.
Serbia will not permit Kosovo's accession to the UN, but there is no turning back now, and such a situation is creating a state of instability and a problem for all of Europe, he said.
