Egypt to continue lobbying against Kosovo’s recognition

Egypt will refuse to recognize Kosovo’s passports and will continue its lobbying efforts in international, African, Arab and Islamic organizations to prevent its further recognition, Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said after meeting in Cairo his Egyptian counterpart Aboul Gheit.

« Egypt's decision in terms of Kosovo passports is in line with the current policy of the state, which has great influence in the Arab world », Jeremic said, adding that his Egyptian interlocutors have confirmed that Cairo "intends to propagate Serbia's view to its partners in the Arab League, the Non-Alligned Movement, the African League, and among Islamic countries".

"It is more than clear that Egypt is supporting our view. It will not recognize Kosovo's independence and it will work with us through diplomatic efforts, in particular within the Islamic Conference, where some countries have tried to present the Kosovo case as a religious  one and asked for support from Islamic states", Jeremic said.

The truth of the matter, Jeremic said, is that the question of Kosovo is « purely a political question, an ethnically-motivated attempt at secession, against the decision of the UN Security Council ».

« The proof for that is also in the fact that Albanians are not only Muslims, and that Serbia is a multiethnic country, in which government two ministers are Muslims », Jeremic said.
