Tadic: Serbia not giving up Kosovo for EU bid

Serbian President Boris Tadic said on Sunday his country would not drop its opposition to Kosovo's secession in order to become a European Union member.

"Our state and our people have their interests like all other states and nations of the world and if somebody think that the present pro-European Serbian government would give up the national interests for the purpose of EU future, they are wrong," Tadic told a news conference.

He said that Serbia's EU integration was in no way opposed to national interests.

"The highest national interest is the EU membership and we will not give it up, but this does not mean that the government will agree to any blackmail," Tadic said.

"Serbia will never give up on its territorial integrity and sovereignty," he said.
