Dick Marty rapporteur on trafficking in human organs
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Committee for Legal Affairs and Human Rights on Wednesday appointed Swiss MP Dick Marty rapporteur on the trafficking in human organs based on accusations presented in the book written by former chief prosecutor Carla del Ponte of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague.

The Council of Europe (CoE) thus formally took over the investigation into the allegations presented by Del Ponte, who said she believed the victims in the trafficking in human organs were Serbs kidnapped in Kosovo in 1999.
Following the publication of Del Ponte's book, Marty spoke to Swiss media, expressing grave concern over her allegations on the trafficking in human organs in which she claimed some of the current leaders of Kosovo Albanians, including Hashim Thaci, had been involved.
The Swiss MP announced he would soon visit the region in order to make up a draft report. His task should be completed in two years at the latest.
Marty acquired wide renown following his report released last year on CIA secret prisons in Europe and kidnappings and illegal transportation of persons suspected of terrorist activities.
Several governments in Europe were compelled to admit knowledge of these illegal activities conducted by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States in the territories of their respective countries.
