Scheffer: Kosovo Security Force to be under Kfor mandate

NATO Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon said on Monday in Pristina that the Alliance’s next engagement in Kosovo was to establish a lightly armed Security Force with 2,500 members, as proposed by UN Special envoy for Kosovo talks Martti Ahtisaari.

"It will be a multiethnic force under KFOR mandate," said Scheffer, adding that it is in the interest of all Kosovo citizens to have a Security Force.

Scheffer also rejected the prospect of a divided Kosovo, saying "any form of partition is not an option."

The Ahtisaari plan was never adopted at the UN, but the EU and NATO are implementing it cooperation with Pristina.
