EULEX committed to solving missing persons cases

EULEX remains committed to solving the cases of missing persons, Chief of the EULEX mission in Belgrade Bernd Borhart stated at the anniversary of the Day of the Missing Persons in Kosovo.

According to the EULEX release, he recalled that 1,754 persons remain missing after the conflicts in Kosovo and that EULEX is helping the Department for Forensic Medicine at the Kosovo Ministry of Justice in solving the cases.

EULEX/OSM and the Unit for War Crime Investigation carried out 25 field operations in Pec, southern Mitrovica, northern Mitrovica, Suva Reka, Prizren, Djakovica, Klina and Srbica, the release states, adding that seven investigations led to the unearthing of remains of 28 individuals.

Since the beginning of the mission, EULEX/OSM and the Unit for War Crime Investigation carried out 384 field operations. A total of 334 human remains have been identified and delivered to families, of which 225 were reported missing while the rest were victims involved in criminal cases or the deceased whose identification was requested by the family, Borhart stated.
