U.S. urges Belgrade, Pristina to reach agreement

The United States, together with the European Union and European foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, is encouraging Belgrade and Pristina to continue efforts to reach and sign the agreement that would normalize their relations, The press has learned at the U.S. Department of State.

A State Department official said that the two sides will meet again in Brussels on Friday and that the U.S. is fully supporting the EU facilitated dialogue.

We welcome the leadership Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and Kosovo Prime Minister Hasim Taci have shown and we remain committed to helping them get to a common position, which would be of use to their people and the region, the U.S. official said.

He reiterated that the United States strongly supports the European perspective for both Serbia and Kosovo, stressing that Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Philip Reeker has visited Brussels to emphasize the support that the U.S. gives to the dialogue and efforts made by Belgrade and Pristina.

The Tanjug's source added that Reeker was not in Brussels at the time of the last round of talks.
