Northern Kosovo politicians expect agreement

Deputy head of the Serbian government office for Kosovo Krstimir Pantic has said he expects a general agreement between Belgrade and Pristina in Brussels on Friday, and President of the Citizen Initiative Serbia, Democracy, Justice Oliver Ivanovic thinks the same.

The announcement itself about the continuation of the talks in Brussels on Friday shows that there was probably some pressure on the Albanian side to agree to the offer from EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, Pantic noted.

"I expect a general agreement to be reached tomorrow, and later on, if the parliament and (Serbia's) top officials feel the agreement is a good one, I expect it signed," Pantic said.

Ivanovic also expects an agreement between the two sides in Brussels on Friday.

He told Tanjug northern Kosovo had to be linked to Serbia geographically, legally and politically.

"It seems an agreement is near and that only details are left to be addressed. What Serbia must push for is for the north to stay geographically, legally and politically defined and as such a partner to Pristina, but there has to be a connection with Serbia," he stated.

"So geographically, we will be a part of Kosovo, but in every other sense, from economy, through education and to healthcare, we will be closely connected to the Republic of Serbia, much more closely than to Pristina," Ivanovic pointed out.
