Kacin: There is still room for agreement
European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur on Serbia Jelko Kacin said on Tuesday that in his report on Serbia, which he put forward earlier, he also included amendments calling on Belgrade and Pristina to intensify the dialogue so as to arrive at a solution and unblock their EU integration processes.

On that occasion, Kacin said that there is still a possibility that Belgrade and Pristina would agree on competencies for a community of Serb municipalities in Kosovo.
That agreement would be a decisive step toward a normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, which is in the best interest of citizens and economic development of Serbia and Kosovo, the wider region and the EU, Kacin said in a press release.
Kacin noted that in their amendments to his resolution proposal, MEPs criticized the article of the Serbian Criminal Code which relates to the crime of the abuse of office, which has recently been changed and now speaks about the abuse of position by a responsible person.
Serbia is entering the period of reforms when securing the full rule of law will be in the focus of public attention, so it needs to secure the best possible start ahead of opening Chapters 23 and 24 during membership negotiations, Kacin said.
In the draft resolution on Serbia, which has already been adopted by the EP Foreign Affairs Committee, Kacin calls on the European Council to grant Serbia a start date for EU entry talks, "as soon as possible, as soon as conditions are met."
