Vucic: Solution to Kosovo issue would be major step

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic stated on Sunday that Serbia wants to reach an agreement with the international community and Pristina but it needs to be in keeping with the country's basic national interests.

"The real question is not whether this will occur in three days because even if we resolve the problem in a month, we have done a major thing for the country," Vucic said and added that talks are conducted every day but nobody will push this under the carpet or try to avoid the topic.
"I believe that the most important message is that Serbia wants to resolve problems and that there is no time to waste," Vucic told reporters after visiting the Adamic family whose two-year-old daughter is waiting for a heart transplant in Vienna.

He said that Serbia's position on the matter is clear and that the country is willing and open for talks under the EU auspices, everywhere and at any time.

We had no problem with what High EU Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton was doing and how she was doing it, we had a problem with the fact that Pristina did not wish to make any concessions while Serbia was constantly asked for such concessions, Vucic recalled.

The deputy prime minister has no information as to whether EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele would join the Belgrade-Pristina talks as some Serbian media reported, but he is under the impression that everyone is trying to find a way to avoid the closing of the talks and ensure that the dialogue continues.

It is in our interest to solve problems instead of having them pile up, Vucic said noting that Belgrade and Pristina are maintaining an intensive communication, and that Belgrade is also communicating with many other European and pan-European power centres with a view to having the talks continue.
