The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) supports its leader and Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and all other state leaders in the talks with Pristina and calls for unity, the party's MP and deputy leader Dijana Vukomanovic said Thursday.

When reporters at the parliament asked what could change concerning the talks with Pristina in the next few days, Vukomanovic said it is always good to think things over with a cool head and noted the situation in Kosovo can be seen much better from Belgrade than from Brussels. "It is good for politicians to talk inside the ruling coalition and with the citizens, to get a feel for the public opinion - these are much better conditions for making a final decision," said Vukomanovic. She said there is a high level of consensus in the ruling coalition, noting it is important for the people that the government show unity at this crucial time. The opposition - the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) on one side, and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Democratic Party (DS) on the other - is joining the public debate with some dissonant tones, which is why the ruling coalition needs to communicate to the people in this way, Vukomanovic said referring to SNS official Nebojsa Stefanovic's call for unity. Asked why Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic offered his resignation after the talks in Brussels, Vukomanovic said he did it in the heat of the negotiations. "Elections are not on the agenda at all as far as we are concerned, the time for them is not now or in the foreseeable future," she said. She added the gap between Belgrade and Pristina remains deep not because sparks flew in their meeting but because of a fundamental difference in positions. URS backs Serbia's negotiating team The United Regions of Serbia (URS) gives full support to Belgrade's negotiating team and calls for unity of all on the political scene in order for a solution for Kosovo to be found that would be in the interest of Serbia, MP of that party Marko Selakovic said on Thursday. “We call for unity of the entire state and all actors on the political scene concerning Serbia's stand and the dialogue with Pristina, and what we could accept and do as a state,” said the MP of the URS, which is a minor party in the ruling coalition, and added that the matter should also be discussed in the parliament. “There is no dilemma for the URS, the main thing is to achieve unity on the way in which Serbia should proceed. We do not have a good solution, this is a difficult moment, and we absolutely support all in the negotiating process in finding the best possible solution,” said Selakovic, who is also a spokesman for that party.
