Answering a question of Tanjug's correspondent about what is next after Tuesday's failure to reach an agreement, Victoria Nuland, spokesperson of the U.S. Department of State, said that she is not sure why Tuesday's talks are characterized in that way. “That is certainly not the way that Lady Ashton characterized the state of play when she spoke about this after the meeting. As she made clear in her statement, there are proposals on the table and the gap between the two sides is narrow,” Nuland said. The U.S. Department of State official reiterated that the U.S. is grateful to Lady Ashton for organized the dialogue. “So we are now encouraging both sides to seize this opportunity to study the proposals that are on the table and to come back to the EU prepared to make a deal,” Nuland said.
