The format of the talks between Belgrade and Pristina was agreed during the previous government and the EU was given the role of a mediator, which Russia agreed to, Chepurin stated. After that, the EU decided to include a U.S. official as an observer, he told TV Most from Zvecan, northern Kosovo.
It is clear that the UN Security Council is the key player and that Resolution 1244 is one of the most important things, which has not lost its power, no matter who claims so, Chepurin said. There is the Security Council decision that the self-declared state of Kosovo is not yet a member of the UN, has not been recognized and that the decision on that depends on the permanent members of the Security Council, he remarked, adding that views should be harmonized step by step while respecting the safety and insterests of the Kosovo Serbs.
Russia will continue to support all initiatives approved by the Serbian government, he said.
