Security situation in south relatively stable
Chief-of-staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Ljubisa Dikovic has stated that the security situation in the Ground Security Zone in south Serbia is relatively stable, and that the main security challenge for Serbia is the question of status and the current situation in Kosovo.

"We are the witnesses of great efforts made by the president and the Serbian government to resolve this issue," Dikovic said in an interview for the latest edition of Odbrana (Defence) magazine, adding that members of the Serbian Armed Forces in cooperation with members of the Serbian Interior Ministry are performing regular tasks of security of the administration line in a responsible manner thus making a considerable contribution to stability and security.
Dikovic said that the most influential factors that jeopardize security are ethnic and religious extremism, international network of organized crime and illegal migrations.
"These security challenges are not specifically military, they are encouraged by the economic crisis and they are characteristic for all western Balkan countries. The key to their solution is in the regional cooperation," Dikovic said.
He said that one of the priorities of the Serbian Armed Forces is an increased engagement in the peacekeeping missions, meaning that during this year the Serbian Army will send up to 475 members to the peacekeeping missions.
"We will be engaged in six multinational operations under the UN mandate and two EU-led missions," the chief-of-staff said.
