On the occasion of the anniversary of this crime, which Serbs will mark on Sunday, Dacic said that the pogrom against the Serbs and their cultural heritage in Kosovo occurred in the presence of international forces. "This should be a lesson, that the international forces have to guarantee peace and safety for all people in Kosovo, in order for this not to happen again in the future," Dacic told journalists in Nis, where he met with representatives of the local community from southern Serbia. He also added that international guarantees are necessary in dialogue with Pristina well, in order to avoid that in ten years someone says that the reached agreements are not valid. A total of eight Serbs were murdered while two went missing in the pogrom carried out by Albanian extremists on March 17-19, 2004. 11 Albanians died in clashes with members of international forces who tried to protect the innocent Serb population. In just 72 hours, the Albanians destroyed and burnt down 938 Serb houses and apartments, 35 churches and monasteries and 10 public buildings.
