Senior officials to meet Friday, talks in crisis?

Serbia's senior officials will meet Friday in Belgrade to discuss the continuation of the dialogue with Pristina in Brussels, and Prime Minister Ivica Dacic said Thursday that he does not know in which direction the dialogue could go when Pristina's representatives do not even want to talk about bestowing executive powers on Serb municipalities in Kosovo.

The prime minister told reporters at the National Library of Serbia that Serbia remains committed to the dialogue as the only way to find a solution, but the situation is very serious: "We will be exposed to great pressures and manipulation," said the prime minister, adding he was appealing to reason: "Serbia has acted fairly, I do not know what more we can propose other then to recognize Kosovo's independence and say 'none of our proposals are passing, do whatever you want.' But what would happen to our people then," said Dacic. He said he is going to Brussels on Monday to resume the talks, but he does not now what he and Kosovo's Prime Minister can agree on any more. "We agree only on one thing, that the problem of parallelism of institutions could be solved by forming a community of municipalities. But they do not want to talk about executive powers for this community at all, they find this topic completely unacceptable, just like we do some other topics," said Dacic. "They keep saying they do not want a Republika Srpska in Kosovo, but we do not know who is even mentioning Republika Srpska. The authority we are proposing for the community of municipalities is much lower than that of Republika Srpska, but there are also other examples of regional governments in Europe," said Dacic. Dacic also said Belgrade needs to finally sit down with Serbs who are part of the Kosovo government, because the majority in the Kosovo parliament depends on them. "This is a crucial time, we must all be united about what we are asking for," said the prime minister.
